Felting (Felt) Project: Corinne Bradd shows Kristy Clark the technique of felting, by matting together the fibres of unspun of wool with a barbed needle to create a dense form that can be shaped. Corinne uses this craft, both in this video demonstration, and in the pages of the latest issue of Crafts Beautiful, to create tiny, cute dogs of various breeds. I want to use some birch bark I found in a craft project. How do I care for the bark before using it?

I found some great birch bark in the woods. It is rolled up into a tube like shape. How do I unroll it and flatten it so I can use it in a craft project? I don’t want to break it. Also is there a glue that I should use when gluing birch on to another object? Thanks!

The craft stores sell this rubber cement that I use in school projects to glue paper to whatever other surface. It will not wrinkle the paper, or discolor it. It also dries clear. The stuff is like rubber cement, and it comes in a tiny glass bottle with a screw on cap. The cap has a brush applicator attached to it inside the bottle or a red rubber tip applicator. It is really cheap. Do not confuse it with the school white paste glue that is usually sold next to the cement.
The Birch bark I would use the spray can poly urethane. I use it to seal my wooden hiking sticks I sell. It also adds a shine to the wood and brings out the grain of the wood also. You can also spray layers of it on top of the first layer without spoiling the detail of the bark.

Sinc,

For my child’s birthday party, what craft ideas would you have?

The party will be held in a park in late August. I’m looking for CHEAP craft ideas. There will be approx. 6 girls and 1 boy. Any ideas?
Forgot to say that my child will be turning 9 yrs old so that’s the age of all kids.
I’m on a budget so I can’t afford much.

Beads and string for bracelet making. You could get all sorts of beads and beads with letters so they can make name braceletes? Making a collage out of paints and leaves and stuff, Good luck :) xxxxxxxxxx
