Arts and craft ideas for this weekends get together? [toddlers]?
Once a month we get together to have arts and crafts along with a pot luck lunch. This weekend I figured we could do something that involved Halloween or something fall.
Any ideas. Its for 2 year olds.
You can use the smaller bubble wrap. Let the kids paint it with red, brown, yellow, and orange paint. Then flip it over onto a piece of paper and rub lightly. When you lift it up it should look like small circles. When it dries you cut the paper into the shape of a corn cob. Then take the husks from real corn and staple it to the top and you have something that should look like indian corn! Its very cute.
Or you could do leaf rubbings. They are very easy. Take the kids outside and let them each pick a few leaves. Take them inside and put the leaves on a table (its easier if you tape the leaves down) put a piece of paper over them and rub with the side of a crayon. I normally use fall leaf colors. Its fast and easy, plus they get some fresh air and time to run off some of their energy.
You could also make leaf people! You glue a leaf of the child’s choice to a piece of paper and let them draw the arms, legs, and head.
painting small pumpkins is fun as well. its easier than carving them but just as cute.

You could make dancing spiders.
On stiff cardboard draw a circle- maybe by tracing around a drinking glass. This will be the spider’s body. You also need to cut or punch two holes near the bottom of the circle- this is where the toddlers pointer and middle finger will go- forming 2 of the spider’s legs. You can either draw the other 6 legs on (3 each side) or punch 6 holes in it later to poke pipecleaners through.
Let the toddlers decorate by colouring it in (if they are more able toddlers, you could cut out the shape and cover in glue and they could stick little balls of black tissue paper onto it) and then cut out either the circle or the circle+legs depending on the method you’re using. Glue on some big bobble eyes and attach the pipecleaner legs, if going that route.
Then show the kids how to poke their fingers through the holes and make their spider dance!
Another spidery activity is to take a paper plate and hole punch around the edge, every inch or so. Then take scissors and snip in to where the hole is, but leave one hole unsnipped. Cut long lengths of yarn and tie one end into the unsnipped hole then help the kids weave the yarn back and forth across the plate creating a ‘spiderweb’. The snipped holes will catch and hold the yarn. A spider can be created by drawing, cutting out and gluing on, or by twisting 4 short lengths of pipecleaner at the middle (creating 8 legs) and gluing a pompom on top- the pipecleaner legs can be manipulated to ‘grab’ the web.
I really hate spiders so I don’t know why I have so many spidery ideas!!
