Paper derived its name from the word ‘papyrus’. It is the pulp of payrus tree which was initially used to make raw form of paper.Paper is made by pressing the moist fiber obtained from cellulose pulp of the wood. It is mainly used for writing and printing. Apart from these roles, it is used widely as a packaging material ,in cleaning products,in constructional and industrial processes. It is also consumed as a food ingredient in some Asian cultures.

Silk was used for writing letters until paper was not invented. The invention of paper in ancient china lead to many cultural changes all over the world. As the machinery and techniques for manufacturing developed,it gave way to mass production of paper. The easy availability of paper lead to the use of paper in many areas other than writing and printing. One of these areas is ‘paper crafting’.

The art of crafting paper started in ancient Japan. The art is known as ‘Origami’ , which involves folding the square sheets of paper without the use of glue and cutting.The most popular art made by origami is ‘the paper crane’. Paper bags are made from the ‘sack paper’. You can use paper bag for generally carrying items. These are made by folding  or may layers of paper and other flexible materials with a one side opening.
