What are some good items to have handy for arts and craft activitites at home with my 4yr old?
I have been saving card boxes and tubes, also yogurt pots and dry pasta.
I have poster paints, string, shiny sweet wrappers. That's all so far, thanks for your ideas.

Shaving cream is a lot of fun. You spray a little on the table, spread it out and you can draw with it. ABC etc.
Cereal, you can count with it and glue it to pictures.

paper plates to tape together and put something like dried beans in the middle to make an instrument

glue, macaroni, paints, finger paints, coloring, go for a walk together and gather things for a collage.
zip lock bags, plant seeds, make a worm farm, a roly poly farm.

we have, in addition to most of whats already been listed hereby others, the following:
Popsicle sticks/tongue depressers (make great bookmarks)
Pipe cleaners
glitter and different size and shape confetti and sequence (SP?)
"furry" little balls like "pom-poms" different sizes

elmers glue, stickers, empty milk cartons, left over scraps of material, yarn, glitter, butcher paper or you can buy a reem of paper from your local newspaper. Leaves from the yard, waxed paper, clay (not playdough)

In early learning they have great ideas for spending time making/painting/drawing/playing with children including all of the above pom poms/sticks/glitter/play doh all sorts, thay will even give you new ideas with all the things on the shelves have a look! hope i've helped you have fun lol.
Early learning is fun for grown ups to!
