Internet Businesses – Arts and Crafts

One option for creating your own home based Internet business is to get into the arts and craft industry – essentially, to create and manufacture your own product lines and then sell them over the World Wide Web. If you have a hobby that somehow relates to arts and crafts, there is a good chance you could make money from it, be it as a nice sideline, way of earning extra pocket money or a real and profitable business that you can run from your own home.

Can you paint, sculpt, do woodcarvings, or create decorative fabrics, quilts and tapestries? Can you make pottery or vases, design baskets, beads and or other knick knacks and trinkets? If so, there is nothing stopping you from selling your creations online. There are numerous ways to sell your wares over the internet, among them Ebay and Etsy. While Ebay can of course be used to sell just about anything and everything, Etsy is a web site specifically designed as a place where artists and craftsmen can sell their creations to the general public.

Registering a business on Etsy is a very simple process, requiring just a home or business address, email address and credit card number – and a business name, of course. That’s it – and once your account is up and running, all you have to do is list the products you want to sell. It costs just twenty cents to list an item, and the item can be listed up to four months and advertised with up to four uploaded photographs at no extra charge. Etsy is not an auction site like Ebay, so just ask the price you want. It is an ideal place to sell homemade creations of all kinds. Etsy is becoming quite the business force – last year it tripled its sales over 2007, earning more than ninety million for its arts and craft business in just twelve months.

The arts and crafts industry is one of the few business that have not been largely unaffected by the global recession, but have actually flourished during it. Etsy and Ebay are not the only options available – there are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of sites where you can sell or advertise your products.

There are also other ways to promote your wares, of course, as with any other home based internet business, including creating a website and then using SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) tips to boost your visibility or promoting your business on other sites including social networking sites such as Facebook. There are even shopping community and blog sites devoted to reviewing unique products such as yours, which could send a lot of business your way, as well as adding yourself to the numerous art and craft search directories available online.

Handmade crafts and unique creations are a niche market, but it is a niche that, if you can get into, stands a very good chance of becoming a potentially very profitable home based internet business, and at very little risk. Time to get started now?

The Influence of Women in Arts and Crafts around the World

The power of creativity is only possible through arts and crafts, as well as popular traditions. While men might have started the Arts and Crafts Movement, women are the backbone of the entire process.

Through the use of popular crafts and art forms, we have been able to have a look into the past and how various cultures were able to represent their own traditions. Arts and crafts are present everywhere, from the Americas, to the Pacific.

Each nation has its own form of crafts or art. India is well known for their wide range of cultural displays. European art started to show the impact of the growing culture in the nineteenth century, and it also showed a decrease in the romanticism aspects.

Machines were invented instead of hands having to make various art forms. In our world today, no matter where you live, it is hard to imagine living without machines, without metal, or technology.

Even though technology has highly evolved from recent years, the term, craft, is still referred to as activities that involve some sort of skill, or a dedication to a specific object and tradition.

Even though each culture in the world has a different idea of tradition, they still remain true to the idea of craft.

Women’s rights around the world are also an important factor of their craft skill. When women live in countries with very little input about the workplace and they are to stay in the home, they often have a more traditional skill for crafts or art.

They only know the skill that their own mothers or grandmothers taught them for married life. The only problem is that when these women are silent wives, with the bread winning husband, they are not recognized for their wonderful talents, and instead it is thought of as their household duty.

In countries where women are thought to be equal, their craft skill is more appreciated and they are able to show their talents in the work force. The sad truth is that the issue of women only being in the home affects more countries than few.

For example, in most of south East Asia, the primary role of the woman is to mend the flock and take care of the home.

Most of their daily activities involve the crafts that so many of the women before them knew, but their activities are not granted with pay or recognition due to the fact that the man believes that it is her duty to him.

In India, the role for the woman is slightly more advanced. The area is less traditional in the means that the woman should stay home and tend to the house.

However, the woman is usually thought to still take part in traditional crafts, such as making saris or clothing wraps. America is very much the same.

While women do not have to wear special wraps to show their place in society or make traditional garments, they still practice basic crafts each day in the home. America is thought to be the best place for equality for women, but many people still assume that a woman’s place is in the home.

Many women are embracing this idea and staying home, while others choose to show their skills in the work place.

The Central Market: an assortment of arts and craft merchandise

Kuala Lumpur has gained accolades over many years for its amalgamation of old and new architecture. Rich with the influence of Victorian, Neo Moorish, Grecian, Spanish and Modern Architecture, it is visible to any visitor how great constructions belonging to different eras grace and add opulence to Kuala Lumpur skyline. Among such splendor is an air conditioned arts and crafts market which could very well be the final stop of a long walking tour through this splendid city. The Central Market in Kuala Lumpur will say out a loud Selamat Datang!” (Which means ‘Welcome’ in Malaysian) to any visitor in typical Malaysian fashion.

Situated at the boarder of Chinatown, the Central Market is on Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, opposite the Klang Bus Stand. The Pasar Seni train station is right outside the Central Market so it will be the ideal way to reach to pick up a host of local handicrafts and other souvenirs. This deco market is filled with every imaginable curiosity from old Craven cigarette tin boxes, oil lamps to century-old Nyonya tea sets, charcoal irons and hairpins. It is also possible for one to see live demonstrations conducted by the very hands that create rich cultural artistry. Not only can you purchase items with a genuine local feel but they are price friendly too, although a little bargaining would be rewarding. This treasure trove also has outlets where you could buy richly woven silk and batik, priced according to their workmanship.

One can find charming souvenirs to take home as keep sakes from your travels such as a Kelantanese tea set, antique silver dining ware, jewelry or an authentic Malaysian kite. The Central Market would also satiate the need for refreshments or a tasty Asian meal as there are many eateries and pubs in and out of the complex. Rich cultural experiences are to be awaited as there are performances, demonstrations and hands-on batik painting as well as cultural performance such as Bangsawan (Malay Traditional Theatre), Wayang Kulit (Shadow Play), Chinese Opera and Nadagam (Indian Traditional Theatre). Moreover, heritage activities like Chinese fortune-telling can also be experienced.

At the end of a long day of touring round the city, it is convenient to retire to a Kuala Lumpur hotel which is closer to the Central Market as well as other attractions of the city such as the Petronas Twin Tower, the night markets and the shopping malls. Citrus Hotel Kuala Lumpur is conveniently placed hotel in Kuala Lumpur, located off Jalan Raja Laut.

Importance of Arts and Crafts for Your Young Child

By Bimla sheokand

Arts and crafts play is the most exciting time for the preschool student. The creative bug takes over and the imagination climbs to new heights! As an educator for these young students we must find new ways or maybe old ones rejuvenated, to incorporate targeted goals while having fun. Some of the most incredible times evolve from the simplest activities created using home made mixtures.

Bubbles and more bubbles, whether blown through a straw or wire hoop, happen to be one of the most appealing summer time thrills in the preschool setting. A very easy but beautiful work of art comes from placing a narrow cup in the middle of a large piece of craft paper. Fill the cup with safe colorful bubble making ingredients and give the budding artist a straw. Have the student blow an overflowing amount of bubbles up and over the top edge of the cup. Watch out for the giggling that this activity could bring about or more than just bubbles will be on the craft paper. Variations to this activity include using several different colors of bubbles – allow the paper to dry between blowing sessions. Once the art has dried, decorate the walls with cut outs that reinforce your lesson plans. For more details pl visit the site.

Pudding paint is also a popular ‘condiment’ in the preschool or home school class. Using vanilla flavored pudding, add a couple of drops of food coloring to tint for a rainbow palette that will excite even the ficklest of artists. Again using craft paper,  Cut out shapes that will supplement your chosen lesson theme. Paint the shapes and decorate with sugar ‘glitter’. This has always brought about rave reviews. For more details pl visit the web site .

Preschoolers love to create clay style bowls to give as gifts. These items are among the most economical pieces a student can create that are three dimensional. Once you have chosen a favorite clay recipe and tinted it (unless the artist will paint the bowl when dried), assign a shape for the base. Example: If working on the square, have the student create a square base to build up the sides upon. The variations to this activity can include sensory items. Add small rough items to the clay prior to the building of the bowl or add peppermint oil to the clay for a sensory excitement explosion. This is an arty item that no one will every become tired of creating because of the endless variations.

Although these are truly fun and exciting activities, the possibilities are endless. Using the many home spun concoctions we can instill a love of creating while reinforcing the educational  or developmental goals of the preschool aged students . Never forget that FUN is always a wonderful foundation to build upon!
As we know arts and crafts play a very important role in the physical and mental development of preschooler kids , and thus it enhances the  ability of creativity in the children .
