Can anyone recommend a good site to find fabric for sewing and crafting?

If not online, maybe some good magazines. I need resources. Should I Google? What would I search for?

I personally like Joann.com as they show the material the amount the colors the price and in some instances they give you a discount and on some occasions they will ship for free. Browse the site and you will see what I mean.

The place where I buy most of my fabric is ebay. Be careful with shipping charges; some charge a fortune and I never buy from them. I particularly like Japanese fabric and buy it exclusively from http://stores.ebay.com/Debsews-Fabrics
She has very reasonably priced fabric and and fast shipping from Hawaii.

JoAnn Fabrics and crafts has a website. Never have gone there, but I do buy most of my fabric from the retail store near me. Prices are good and good selection.

    http://www.joAnn.com

also try http://www.jjstitches.com if you are looking for quiltling supplies and fabric. It’s considered the best fabric shop in Wisconsin. They also carry patterns other than quilting.

    Good luck in your search.

Threads magazine has a list of advertisers — they tend to be more high end, but some of the "bargain" sites also advertise:

For finding a particular fabric, Clusty is a better search engine than google or yahoo in my opinion, because it categorizes the search results into groups.

Try searching for >> silk charmeuse << at http://www.clusty.com and then look over in the left column and click on "fabric". Compare that with searching for the same phrase at google or yahoo.

If you’re looking for "outdoor fabrics" or "technical fabrics", Penny Schwyn has posted a list of reliable suppliers at:

If you’re looking for other classes of fabrics, you might also want to look for a co-op specializing in that sort of fabric. One I belong to is the yahoo group fabricsandnotions, specializing in good quality garment fabrics. Other coops might specialize in quilting fabrics, diaper fabrics, etc., etc. Hang around and watch how a particular co-op works before investing much in it — co-op leaders vary greatly in their organizational skills and in how businesslike the co-op is. Remember, too, that co-ops often have lead times of a couple of months or more before you get the fabric you ordered.. unlike a "real store"
