If you want to teach your kids the value of recycling, it would help a lot if you give them some hands-on experience. Learning first-hand just how important recycling is and what they can do with materials that are considered by some as trash will give your kids a greater appreciation for recycling.

A few simple crafts can get your kids started on recycling. Here are some recycling projects for kids that your children may enjoy working on.

1. A letter holder from old CDs and packaging foam

One good recycling project for kids is making a letter holder from old data CDs and foam. Old data CDs are hard to dispose sometimes, and so is packaging foam.

To make a letter holder from these materials, you would need the following:

• Four old data CDs

• Packaging foam

• Scraps of decorative cloth, art paper or pages from a glossy magazine

• Glue

• Other decorative items like beads, silk flowers or glitter

To do this recycling project for kids, glue two CDs together to make them a pair. Decorate these CDs with your choice of decorative cloth, art paper or magazine pages, and then accentuate them with beads or flowers and other accessories.

The packaging foam serves as the base of the letter holder, so you can shape it any way you want and decorate it the way you did the CDs. Afterwards, cut panels into the foam where you could insert the CDs.

2. A bird feeder from milk cartons

This is another simple recycling project for kids that will also teach them to appreciate nature. This would work well if you live outside the city; you would have a greater chance of attracting birds.

All you need to do with this recycling project for kids is to take a milk carton and cut an opening on its side. You do not have to throw out the portion you have cut out, though. You can fold it and glue it to the upper side of the opening on the milk carton so it would look like a flap. This flap should be stiff so it would not fall on the heads of the birds as they feed from the milk carton.

Once that is done, you fill the carton with bird seed and then prop it up where the birds can reach it.

3. A kite from paper bags

We usually throw away paper grocery bags, but these can be good materials for recycling projects for kids. All you need to do is to get your kids to paint these grocery bags any way they want, attach strings to it, and then go flying kites.

An important thing that you should remember when making your children do recycling projects for kids is to supervise them, especially when they are using sharp objects like scissors, so they would not harm themselves.

Christmas is among the best feasts of the year for your kids. In order to turn this feast into a real enjoyable activity, you simply have to teach your kids some uncomplicated Christmas crafts projects, so that the celebration is full of joy for you and for them!

As soon as a child helps you choose what the Christmas-projects will be, everything will flow just fine, because kids have better imagination than adults! However, have in mind that preschoolers typically need to be helped and guided, but that will be better, because you will have to assist in smaller crafts projects, right? As an example, you will only add sprinklings in addition to the styles of Christmas trees or adhesive ribbons on the wreaths.

Moreover, children who have already attended school, show the tendency of being more creative and will typically construct all crafts projects on their own. As usual, parents organize parties for smaller children with their neighbor’s kids. However, you have to consider that even older children, just about the age of nine, really enjoy socializing with other children at their age. Therefore, if you have kids at this age, you may perhaps want to organize a Christmas-craft meeting together with your kid’s friends or neighbors.

One of the additional extras for the Christmas-projects may be a customized Xmas card. Everything you actually need would be a piece of cellophane, a constructing paper list, and a few extra materials for the designing style of the card. When you start, you need to assist your kid fold the cellophane and the construction paper to the required size.

So, now just let them design the card in the means they need and offer them basic materials like crayons or colored markers. If you wish to give them some inspiration, show some typical Xmas characters, such as Santa Claus, snowmen, the Rudolph deer, Xmas-trees etc.

As soon as you have completed these Christmas crafts projects, help your kids write his or her Xmas-message that they would like inside the Christmas card. In conclusion, that way, your kids will be ready to take these cards to the post and to send letters to the family and their friends!

Do you like to knit but hate it being so slow? A friend of mine told me about how much faster she was knitting. I just had to know her secret. It turns out she uses a knitting needle called Addi Turbo. I went to the local craft store to find me an Addi Turbo knitting set. Fortunately, the store had plenty of them. What did I learn about this type of knitting tool?

These needles are so light weight. I looked on the package and they’re made from Germany. I’ve used other knitting needles that slowed me down because of the weight. You’ll notice immediately how well this set works because it is light weight.

Another advantage that I liked about the knitting needle set is how circular they are. You simply thread the needle with your yard. The snag free cord really cut my time of knitting projects down tremendously. Now, I was beginning to see why my friend can knit so quickly with the Addi Turbo needles.

You’ll want to be careful in the size of needle you select. The company offers many different sizes for various types of knitting projects. Determine the size of needles you’ll need by looking at your knitting pattern instructions. It can be difficult to do all your stitches right, if you’re using the wrong size knitting needle.

One problem I have with knitting and getting slowed down is the tips of my needles end up getting damaged from hitting them together. You’ll find that you decrease time wasted because of the design. You’ll spend less time hitting the needles together. If you do, by accident, the tips are wonderful because they’re made with nickel plated brass. You won’t damage the needles, the way you can with other types of knitting needles.

Take the time to go through the package instructions. The Addi Turbo knitting needles come with great instructions and illustrations. Reviewing the instructions, when you get the Addi Turbo needles home, will help you knit so much faster.

Addi knitting needles are made in Germany and are popular throughout the United States and Europe with knitters for the speed and ease of knitting made possible by these needles. They are distributed exclusively in North America by Skacel and are available in fine knitting stores across the country.

These needles are available in many different styles and materials. One of their most popular products is their circular needle. This was the initial product in this popular line. The needles have rust-resistant nickel-plated brass tips, and the cord is snag-free nylon. The needles are lightweight and make significantly less noise than most needles, so you can feel comfortable knitting at the movies or in any other situation where the noise could be distracting. These needles come in a number of lengths and sizes; they are available in 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, 40, 47, and 60 inch lengths, and in sizes 0 to 36 US.

I am really glad my friend shared her knitting secret with me. The Addi Turbo knitting needles speed up your knitting since they are light weight, are circular, have different needle sizes, top-quality tip material and excellent user-friendly directions. The company boasts that these circular knitting needles will have you knit faster. I found this to be very true when I used these knitting needles. In fact, I use them all the time now for all of my knitting projects.

ICTC (International Cambridge Training Centre) organised a summer school course for young children between the ages of 6 to 12 years old. The Institute which normally specialises in providing English tuition for all ages hosted a course of activities which covered arts & crafts, drama, computing sports as well as English lessons. The initial response for the course was overwhelming, 50 children immediately applied to take part.

The first aim of the institute’s work is to provide good quality English lessons and so Projects Abroad were more than happy to arrange for our volunteers to assist the local Mexican teachers. The teachers were able to focus on the grammar side of things. The volunteers meanwhile with their skill of being native English speakers focused on the conversational side and how the language actually works in practice. With everyone participating and playing to their strengths all the pupils received a really enjoyable and well rounded curriculum.

Furthermore, the institute does its utmost to create programmes which integrate an element of community service in its work. With that in mind Projects Abroad worked with them to sponsor 10 children from very low income families to participate in the course. The orphans chosen were from the DIF (Desarrollo Integral de la Familia) a government department which carries out a lot of a lot of social care work in local communities.

One of the highlights of the project was undoubtedly the closing ceremony. The students all performed a series of four plays in English. The enthusiasm from both the volunteers and students was quite evident to everyone watching and was a sight to behold. The students put on a seamless performance and were thoroughly deserving of the diplomas they were presented with at the end of the course.

Projects Abroad would like to thank everyone involved but especially Vanessa Reufsteck, Verena Linke and Kate Turner who selflessly dedicated their time, effort and commitment to make the project so successful. We are sure that they must be as pleased with the results of their hard work as everyone else is.
