Keeping Summer Time From Being Boring Time For Kids

There are many other drop-off and pick-them-up things parents can get their child involved in like karate or dance school. Some colleges have activities for kids during the summer as well. The best way to find activities is to look in the local newspaper or look in the telephone book. The internet has great deal of information for things to do with children during the summer. It is great to keep the kids’ brain turning during the summer break. The best time to start planning is during the winter time, so do not delay. Some places take reservations very early and some programs will fill early, too. Start your planning today.

On the weekdays the kids could go to camp. A lot of people are getting out of the tradition of sending the kids away for the whole summer to a secluded forest with a bunch of teenagers and a couple of adults. There are now camps that have a meeting place where you can drop the kids off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. The camp will drive a bus to the site every day so the kids still have a camp-like experience but not the whole spend-the-night thing. They will still get to do activities like swimming, hiking, sports, and arts and crafts. Another activity is getting involved in the local library. Many cities have libraries that do activities for kids on a daily basis during the summer. They cannot stay all day but the activities are free.

There are many activities parents can plan for their kids during the summer. The first thing is to travel. Taking a couple of weeks to go on vacation is a great way to get a break from it all. A lot of places have packages for early booking and the longer the stay, the better the deal. There are also good deals with the more people that are coming. Some hotels will give a discount if more then one room is booked. Amusement parks will give discounts to families and some offer deals for kids or senior citizens if the grandparents come along. If a person can not travel for two weeks straight then there is always travel on the weekends. The family can pack up the car to leave on a two hour drive on Friday and come back on Saturday. It could be a camping trip or going to the next town to shop and sightsee.

Summer time is fun time for the children. They get a long awaited break from school which means, according to them, they do not have to use their brains any more. The kids are ready to sit around the house, play with their toys and eat. However pretty soon sitting around the house gets old because video games get conquered, Barbie marries Ken and the food is all gone. All of their favorite television shows have played the same rerun twelve times. What else is there to do with the children during the summer?

Have a Productive Summer with the Kids

The end of the school year is here and it’s time for summer to begin!  This is usually a bittersweet time for parents.  We’re happy to spend more time with our kids, but it can cut into our schedules when it comes to errands, appointments, work and housekeeping.  Keeping the kids entertained so that you can get everything done is sometimes really challenging.  It may not be long before you’re hearing the dreaded, incessant declaration of “I’m bored” from all sides!

To preempt the kids losing their motivation to play and in turn, you losing your patience, you need to have a plan.  Summer activities are fun but can also be time consuming.  It’s inevitable that your kids will have some downtime in which to get bored while you’re scurrying around trying to get dinner ready, bills paid and the house clean.  After trips to the beach, days of playing at the pool, and hours spent with friends, your kids will need something to do so that you can keep up with your own responsibilities.

Stock up on craft supplies.  Kids learn so much from creating art and it can keep them entertained for long periods of time.  They shouldn’t get bored because they can do something different every time they sit down.  Gather things from around the kitchen, like sprinkles, uncooked noodles, oatmeal, cupcake papers, coffee filters, wax paper, aluminum foil, plastic bags, and food coloring.  Put everything into a large bin so that the supplies can be brought out at a moment’s notice.  Get creative and teach you kids to be imaginative while you get things done.

Rainy days can be the most difficult.  When the kids feel trapped in the house, you can encourage them to play cooperatively by setting up a game of musical chairs, or let them have a dance competition.  They can play hide and go seek or build giant forts all over the house.  You may be amazed at how long kids can play with cardboard boxes and sheets!  Rent some movies and let the kids bring down all of their pillows and blankets for some snuggly downtime between activities.

Summer is also a great time to work on some of those things that you’ve been letting slide lately.  Have you noticed more whining, complaining or talking back?  Do you need time to potty train but your toddler has been in preschool all year?  Now is the time to tackle some of those things that are sometimes hard for parents to find time to work on.

Have the kids earn special privileges for their accomplishments.  Let them earn points towards a trip to the movie theater or a late bedtime.  You will be more successful if you are motivating and use positive reinforcement for success.  Enable your kids to succeed by giving them tasks that are simple for them to accomplish.  Empty a cabinet so that your toddler can put dishes away.  Give them <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.onlykidshangers.com”title=”Infant Hangers”>infant hangers</a> or children’s hangers so that they can actually put the clothing on the hangers themselves.  Baby hangers are smaller than conventional ones and are easy to handle.  Be creative and help your kids to improve themselves this summer while you stay in control of your life.

Clever and Inexpensive Ways to Keep the Kids Busy Over Summer Vacation

As the lyrics to the infamous Kiss song, Schools Out for Summer are blaring on the intercom at your child’s school, kids everywhere are headed home to rest, relax and annoy the stew out of their parents.  The current economic conditions have many families opting to stay home this summer rather than visit pricey resorts and finding ways to avoid the “I’m bored” chorus is critical to parental sanity.  The good news is that this nosedive in available funding and excess time together can actually bring families back to their roots and have you and your children enjoying some of the simple pleasures in life.

The first advice is of course, to come up with some summer time rules.  Give them a few extra chores around the house so that you don’t end up becoming a 24-hour maid regretting your decision to not send the kids to camp.  This is a good time to start even young children making their own beds in the morning and learning how to fill up a bowl of cereal or heat up a pop-tart when they are hungry.  In the long run, your introduction to real life chores like laundry sorting will help you out and transition your kids to independent and self-reliant creatures.

Step two is to come up with a very brief and comprehensive plan of things that you can do on a budget.  Allow each child in your home to fill out some scrap pieces of paper with ideas of activities they want to do.  Your youngest may write spend a day at the jump-house while your older kids may favor a day at a local water park.  Decide that each week – you will do one activity, saving the most costly ones for a special time.  Perhaps rather than paying kids an allowance for their extra chores, you can plan an end of summer bash at a local water park should they earn the privilege.

Encourage your kids to think of local things to do.  So many parents are caught up in vacations that require extensive travel when a host of activities (many free) exist right outside your back door.  Check out the state parks, many of which offer swimming holes and hiking trails and plan day trips that will acquaint your child with their home state.  Also, look for some inexpensive camps that may be offered by the schools which can keep your kids interested or peak an interest in sports, arts or crafts.

Another great way to enjoy the summer is to look for any of the millions of outdoor concerts that are often held.  Whether you live in a big city or not, chances are that some nearby city or town is hosting festivals and concerts that are free to the public.  Treating your kids to snow cones and funnel cakes while you are there can be inexpensive and make the evening special.  Plus, it may foster a love in music and have a family atmosphere that can truly bring you and your kids together.

Since swimming is always a great summer activity, look for swimming holes in your area.  You might be surprised to find the immense amount of lake beaches (which are often safer for children) or local pools where you can join for nominal summer fees.  This will keep your kids cool, allow you time to relax as well as provide plenty of exercise and time for socializing.  Local libraries also have lots of summer reading activities that include entertainment for children of all ages.  Many of their schoolmates may be attending these as well.

Speaking of friends, talk to your children’s friends and their parents to plan sleepovers in the backyard.  If you are close with them, take turns organizing day trips together for the kids so that the kids will form bonding friendships and you will have some distracting conversation besides that of your children to engage in.  If you live in a neighborhood, even planning neighborhood activities like yard sales, bizarres or old fashion street fairs can be a great way to get the garage cleaned out and keep the kids busy over the summer time.

Other cost friendly ideas that will help you to enjoy your summer without busting your budget is to take weekend camping trips.  Visit family that lives out of town and explore their hometown for a change of pace.  Or, take on a home improvement project around the house that the kids can take part in.  Summer is the perfect time to redecorate your tweens room, add a porch to your home, or build a playground of your own.  Not to mention, turn your bedroom into retreat for you and your spouse to enjoy in private.

You don’t have to spend money to make family memories.  Often by thinking of simple activities that don’t cost a bundle, you will actually be able to enjoy summer vacation with your children without feeling burdened to have the time of your life.  Getting back to the basics and simplifying things may be just the way to reconnect with the kids and make this the most memorable summer ever.  Of course, buying yourself sound high quality headphones and an Ipod can help you get through it as well.
